Alcohol Detox Treatment

July 3rd, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

An alcohol dependent person is subservient to a strong desire of drinking alcohol. Over time, the body of the this person becomes so addicted to the substance that it starts developing withdrawal symptoms some three to eight hours after the last drink and so drinking is hard to resist. Alcohol Detox involves a short course of medication to prevent withdrawal symptoms once the alcoholic stops drinking.

Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms

Before you seek professional alcohol detox for yourself or someone else, check for the symptoms like: feelings of sickness, craving for a drink, sweating, trembling, and feeling lifeless (or simply awful). While the other symptoms usually disappear within a week of giving up alcohol, the craving for alcohol persists for longer.  About one in twenty people who stop drinking suffer from a more severe effect called delirium tremens. It is marked by shaking and delirium sometimes comes with convulsions. Dehydration and some other serious physical problems may also appear and in fact, they sometimes prove fatal.

Alcohol Detox Medicine

Chlordiazepoxide, a benzodiazepine medicine, is most commonly used drug for detoxifying alcohol. It is also used to relieve anxiety, nervousness and tension observed in patients of anxiety disorders.

Alcohol Detox by a General Practitioner

The usual plan of alcohol detox followed by a primary physician starts with a high dose of the detox medicine on the first day the patient stops drinking. The detox dose is then reduced gradually over the next week. The patient is under the restraint of not taking alcohol despite his/her craving and the doctor may check with a Breathalyzer to confirm it. The patient has to attend regular check ups and family and friends are frequently included in the treatment for the patient’s support.

Response to Treatment

Different patients respond differently to alcohol detox; some managing very well; others experiencing symptoms like nervousness or anxiety (lasting a few days), difficulty in sleeping (for a few nights), and mild withdrawal symptoms. Some craving for alcohol lingers even after the detox treatment is over. The patient needs determination and endurance to cope with it.

Relapse after Detoxification

After the detox treatment is successfully completed, some patients may relapse into drinking. In such cases, the patient is put on special medication for some months. These medicines include Acamprosate and Disulfiram. Acamprosate eases the craving for alcohol. Disulfiram causes very disturbing effects if alcohol is taken while using it. So this dread of disturbance keeps the patient from alcohol. In addition, regular counseling and support from the physician, family, friends, and self-help groups aids the process of recovery.

Hardcore Detox with Bentonite

July 1st, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

There are lots of detox diets out there, but many experts in colon cleansing and all-around digestive cleansing maintain that in order to fully detox, an additional product is needed.  Changing one’s diet for a period of time gives one version of detox, these experts say, but in order to get a full-blown detox that leaves your colon as good as the day you were born, a full cleanse is necessary.

Some experts do this with herbal preparations, but the majority rely on a product such as bentonite for detox that is unsurpassable.  Bentonite is a type of clay that works by binding toxins up so that they will be eliminated along with the bentonite and anything else in your system at the time of elimination.  Bentonite detox is not always physically comfortable, but a lot of people maintain that the feeling you have afterwards is worth the discomfort of taking the bentonite itself.  Bentonite detox is not uncomfortable for everyone, but if you are considering doing it, you should be aware that discomfort is, indeed, a possible side effect.

History of Bentonite

Bentonite detox of the colon has been used for some time as a clinical colon cleanse.  In today’s world, where detox diets are popping up all over the place, regular people are going to their doctors and asking them if it’s okay if they take on some sort of detox program.  Historically, detox was requested by doctors in preparation for certain clinical procedures.  Today, everyone’s willing and even motivated to take on programs like bentonite detox of their own volition.  Bentonite itself hasn’t changed; what is it in the world that’s making everyone reach for such drastic measures?

A lot of sociologists who look at human trends have noticed in the last 50 years the ease with which people are undertaking special diets.  Diets like Atkins and South Beach are only the most popular of these diets; there are scores of less and more drastic versions of these diets that have popped up and are circling the planet faster than trends in fashion and jewelry.

Though bentonite detox is far from the most popular of these fad diets and healthy-living habits and programs, one might wonder if bentonite detox is going to become the next South Beach—on everyone’s lips from parents to the media.  Some say that the unpleasant image of bentonite will keep this detox diet from becoming the next big thing, but others are not so sure; they claim bentonite is on its way to something!

Why Lemonade Detox Diet is so Popular

June 30th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

Most of us have battled with diets at one point or the other in our lives in order to lose a few pounds; however, here is a diet that does not only help you lose some pounds but will also cleanse your body in the process. The lemonade detox diet has been used by many with successful results but, you must be warned that it is not the easiest way to detox or diet.

Dieting and Detoxing at the Same Time

The lemonade detox diet is simple as it basically consists of lemonade, which you can make at home as you choose. For example, you cam make lemonade from fresh lemons or use a ready made mix but, you must ensure that it does not contain any sugar; the only sugar you can use it a replacement such as Splenda. If you are making the lemonade at home with fresh lemons you can use maple syrup as some recommend as it contains essential vitamins but remember that it contains sugar and you don’t want to over do it.

Lemon works as a natural cleanser for the colon and it is very high in vitamins and nutrients so, you don’t suffer any loss of these in the lemonade detox diet. Therefore, everyday for a week or two at the most all you need to do is make a gallon of lemonade detox diet drink and have the same throughout the day. You can have as such water as you like as well along with the lemonade detox diet as it will help cleanse your body and replenish any lost fluids in the process.

Helpful Tips

The lemonade detox diet may not be practical for everyone and if you think you cannot do it, try an alternative, which is having the same quantities of lemonade with a healthy meal as the citrus syrup from the lemons helps slow down the digestion of carbohydrates. This in turn will break the cycle of producing high levels of insulin that is at the base of your hunger and weight gain.

The lemonade detox diet should be used with healthy meals only if you want results to show and not with fast food greasy items or chocolates, as you might be disappointed in the process. In order to see the full results of this process, you can not choose to have lemonade in addition to your regular meals, it is supposed to replace meals, not complement them.

Lose Weight And Cleanse Your Body With Some Detox Juice

May 30th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

There are many detox diets and using juice to detox is just one of them. The detox juice diet can easily be undertaken at home without any special drugs or equipment.  This is one of the strictest detox diets (others contain solid foods, with restrictions) but it is also one of the shortest ones out there.  The juice detox program can last as short as one day and any period of time over three days is only recommended under the supervision of a health professional trained in detoxification.

Basically everything eaten in a one, two or three day detox juice diet is juiced.  This means juicing fresh (organic) fruits and vegetables following a strict recommendation list of what is a good idea and what is not such a good idea to consume on such a diet.  For example, citrus fruits are usually avoided because of their acidic nature, and some juices, such as pomegranate, are usually not recommended because they can increase the concentration of prescription medications in the blood.

What to Expect

If you’ve decided to try a detox juice diet for some reason, whether it’s the most appetizing menu to you or because it’s such a short diet, you should have some idea what to expect from the juice program.  First of all, you should check with your doctor if you have any chronic health conditions before starting this kind of diet; no pregnant woman or child should ever do a juice diet.

Secondly, you should take it easy on the day(s) of the diet, drink lots of water, and be prepared to feel overtired.  Some side effects of following a detox juice diet are headache, constipation, bad breath, and tiredness.  If you continue such a diet longer than a day or two, you might get accumulative side effects such as acne and even nutritional deficiencies.  Generally, a one-day juice diet is too short to produce real nutritional shortages of vitamins and minerals, but you should always keep this possibility in mind and treat yourself with care, staying on guard for health problems.

While the benefits of a juice detox diet might be very appealing, make sure to execute the diet in a safe and healthy way or you could be counteracting any positive side effects with something negative.  Detox diets all have something to offer us, juice diets included, but in order to be effective and to not backfire on those practicing them, they must be carried out in a healthful and conscientious manner. Some people prefer to buy detox juice ready made. These detox juices can be very expensive and can easily be made at home yourself saving yourself a lot of pounds, while at the same time losing a few lbs!!

The Benefits of Doing Alcohol Detox at Home

May 16th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

There are many reasons why some people prefer to do alcohol detox at home and many reasons why other people prefer to do it in the traditional way—in a rehab center. Some of the benefits of going to detox in a typical residential facility are that you get to be around other people who are going through the same things in detox as you are and that there are no bottles of liquor around that you have to resist.

On the one hand, these benefits of traditional rehab centers make detox there easier, but they also make it easier to fall back into old habits when you go home again. Doing alcohol detox at home is one way to help prevent yourself from falling back into your old habits.

Difficulties of At-Home Alcohol Detox

Alcohol detox is hard and there is no exception to that rule. Detox from anything is difficult, not just from alcohol; detox diets are also difficult although they are not often compared to drug and alcohol detox. Since detox is so hard, some people find it easier to endure if they can go through their detox program at home, for alcohol or for something else.

Being in the comfort of your own home can make detox seem like a less painful process. On the other hand, take your habits into consideration as there are many kinds of drinkers. If you are the kind of drinker who drinks at home every night, at-home alcohol detox may be near to impossible for you.

Habitual drinking occurs in different people with different patterns, so you’ll want to take your own habits and patterns into account when deciding if you should try doing alcohol detox at home. Though it might be more difficult for some to abstain from drinking when doing detox at home instead of in a rehab center, there are added benefits. If you are able to change your habits at home, the probability that you will find yourself abusing alcohol again in the future is lowered.

This is because your habit alteration will change in your natural environment. One of the toughest things about rehab facilities is that when you go home you have a really hard time staying on your rehab center habits. If you’ve done your alcohol detox at home in the first place, you’re already readjusted to the ‘real world’.

Cleanse Your Body Twice A Year With A Detox Diet Plan

May 14th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

A detox diet plans is a cleansing diet to help rid your body of toxins and also initiates weight loss. Some detox diet plans do not work as we think they should. Why is it that in spite of the out best intentions and best detox diet plans, the results are often not as we expected them to be? To find the answers to these questions we will need to understand what detox diet plans are and what can make them succeed or fail.

The Myths of detox diet Plans - The Main Reasons for Disappointment

There are too many myths that surround the detox diet plans. The following will brief you on the most popular beliefs and the truth.

1. Once we adopt the detox diet plans we feel that weight would melt like butter. This is a very common myth because we feel that weight is directly proportionate with the intake of food. However, the body has stored a large quantity of fat and it will take quite some time till all this stored fat has melted so you could note some real change.

2. People who adopt detox diet plans need to have only bland and tasteless food. People feel that ‘diet’ means unpalatable food; this cannot be further from truth. Diets can have some excellent choices of food without any compromise on its nutrient value. One does not need to consume tasteless food just because you are on diet.

3. The detox diet plan is fail proof. Nothing takes care of itself automatically; this diet plan is particularly difficult to follow since it requires medical monitoring and advice regularly. In order for this program to be successful, you will require having and maintaining solid determination. To see it succeed; the program should have the right nutrients, the right motivation and the right amount of will power.

4. The most important thing in a diet is dieting. Actually, the most important thing in a diet is the nutritive value of the diet. A good detox diet plan will have the right balance of nutrients, minerals and water. In other words, you need not starve yourself to make the detox diet plans a success; you should rather concentrate in enforcing that diet for as long as it takes to achieve the required results.

You should not be disappointed if these diet plans do not always work as per your expectations. By adopting healthy food habits, a balanced diet and continuous watch over fats, one can achieve a good deal of success with such diet plans. detox diet plans can make you feel better once the toxins are out of your system. They can be very hard to stick to but often the result is worth it as people who are overweight have huge weight losses.
